Partially an oral history of obscure TV shows, partially an oral version of MST3K, and partially a thorough episode guide, It Was a Thing on TV is an anthology podcast about obscure, forgotten, and odd TV shows, commercials, televised events, and almost anyone and anything else that was on television. For the most part, the subjects we cover are from the United States and Canada. We’re just three guys with a love for television. New episodes are generally every Monday and Thursday, sometimes more often.

EA Sports College Football '25 is now out digitally (the physical version comes out Friday 7/19) so Greg hitched a one-month subscription of EA Play on PS5 just to play the free trial. Here are some of his reactions to the game so far in this Instant Reaction.

Episode 482--Don't
Thursday Jul 11, 2024
Thursday Jul 11, 2024
As we continue our Deadpool and Wolverine month, we cover a recent show which rewarded participants for not doing stuff, though they really were doing stuff in a backwards way. Despite a well-known actor hosting and a certain superhero narrating, the viewers followed in a way consistent with the premise of this show--don't watch.

Episode 481--We The People 200: The Constitution Parade
Wednesday Jul 03, 2024
Wednesday Jul 03, 2024
Every year when we celebrate the United States' birthday, we offer up a patriotic show. This Independence Day is no different, except the event covered in this episode happened in September 1987, to coincide with the 200th anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution. This parade didn't offer much in terms of celebrities, but it gave viewers a look at how things were done in 1787.

Mike shared a little nugget with the other guys earlier this week. That message became the seed of this Delayed Reaction, reacting to events which happened close to a decade ago. Dynasty? Really?

Under normal circumstances, a popular show which lasted 4 seasons would not be fodder for this podcast. For our Marvel shows leading up to the release of Deadpool & Wolverine, we're making an exception. Anyway, we think the show got worse once the pizza place part of the premise was abandoned. Just to reiterate, this is only about the first 2 seasons with the pizza place.

Episode 479--Fifteen
Thursday Jun 20, 2024
Thursday Jun 20, 2024
We begin our salute to the upcoming release of Deadpool & Wolverine with a show so bad it almost made Deadpool quit acting altogether. Imagine a run of the mill high school where “another day, another drama” isn’t just a saying, it’s a way of life. It really is an awkward stage and a difficult age when you’re… Fifteen.
(Note: Apologies for some background noise you might hear. Me and Chico recorded on Skype and you might hear a popcorn-ish sound which is the sound of my wood chair creaking. - Greg)

Episode 478--That Puppet Game Show
Thursday Jun 13, 2024
Thursday Jun 13, 2024
The Brits seem to try just about anything when it comes to game shows. Case in point, this entry from just over a decade ago, a primetime endeavor which combined game show elements with Henson Alternative puppets. The end result was That Puppet Game Show, which ran for only 8 episodes. Even though it aired overseas, listeners on the other side of "the pond" can watch it on a semi-frequent basis.

Episode 477--The Girl with Something Extra
Thursday Jun 06, 2024
Thursday Jun 06, 2024
In the past, we have talked about the ESP fad in the 60s through the early 80s. A 1973 comedy used the sixth sense as a premise, one that was used less as time went on, turning the show into just another TV show. Despite two great leads, The Girl with Something Extra was not a show with anything out of the ordinary.

Episode 476--Twisters (1982 pilot)
Thursday May 30, 2024
Thursday May 30, 2024
We close the door on yet another pilot month with this amalgamation of pieces and parts from various game shows from the Bob Stewart family, mixed with the theme from a past and future Stewart show, and add a shuffleboard table for good measure. The end result was Twisters, a truly unique concoction that didn't make NBC's schedule in late 1982/early 1983.
